Five for Friday

Great Challenges in Global Health is calling for submission to develop the next generation of condom. Because let's face it, there hasn't been a whole lot of technological improvement there for some 400 years. The project is receiving financial support from the Bill Gates Foundation. I just thought this was interesting. Your awareness has been raised this Friday!

Kevin McCloud has a Pinterest page. For any other Grand Design freaks out there. Seriously is a great show to have on while cooking dinner, though.

Brisbane City Council City Centre MasterPlan Ideas Fiesta. A three-week long program of free public events.

A website has done a list of their favourite DIY fashion bloggers and posts. The post itself isn't great but you can look through the websites and projects and find some great new blogs and ideas. Personally, I loved this one on ...love Maegan. I wish I'd seen this months ago, I might have tried this to have one 'neon' item in my wardrobe.

Five for Friday no.13

Brisbane has our own 100% local online shoe store. I'm so proud!

Zombies, Run! There is an app you can buy that makes running … fun … shudder … by making it an interactive game in which as soon as you step out of your door you're running from the zombies and fighting for your life. Sounds cool but it's not enough to convert me: I don't run.

Who doesn't love a good bookshelf or beautiful library website? I know I do, even though they fill me with bitter seething envy. So, bookshelf site!

A short history of the Calendar. For those of you who weren't in the know.

Slow motion ballet. Two dancers from the Staatsballett Berlin slowed to 1000 frames per second accompanied by Radiohead's Everything in Its Right Place.

Five for Friday no.11

For anyone else who sees photos beautiful, eclectic but well-thought out interiors and thinks to themselves: I want that, but I will never have it because I have neither the time nor money to achieve it, you will enjoy this tumblr.

Our state election is tomorrow – finally! - so here is a little interactive map of the great state of Qld with sitting state members, their affiliation and margin.

Bensimon canvas shoes. I spotted through Cup of Jo and if I didn't already have an unhappy credit card, I would buy some. Shall put it off until summer because they look perfect for hot summer days.

Ok, this one is a little random but adorable. Online luxury shopping destination Luisa Via Roma has teamed up with UNICEF to raise money in a campaign called "Pug dogs for Happy Kids". Twenty-one top fashion designers have 'dressed' a toy pug in the style of heir fashion house and the dogs are being sold on ebay to raise money. This is Viktor and Rolf's offering:

I've loved the idea of glitter eyeshadow ever since I first saw Audrey Hepburn in How to Steal a Million (One of my favourite movies. Never seen it? You must. This weekend!). In a scene with the delectable Peter O'Toole, she was in black lace Givency with a veil like an eye mask covering half her face and when she looked down, her eyelids sparked with silver glitter then disappeared again in a moment.
Unfortunately, when I googled 'glitter eye make up',well, it was not so pretty. With the exception of the incomparable Ms Hepburn.
So here is a photo montage of beautiful glitter eye make up.

Five for Friday no. 9

I love the idea of make-your-own shoes. In Australia you go to Shoes of Prey. A work colleague of mine recently got some shoes for her wedding made by Shoes of Prey and they're adorable! Milk and Honey are the American version and have some most lust-worthy designs.

Future Post Box. Send a letter to your future self.

Tommy Ton is a street-style blogger so well known he now photographs proper campaign for fashion houses such as Proenza Schouler. However, he still works his magic on the streets of the world's fashion capitals and right now is the best time to be checking out his blog for the amazing and crazy at New York, London, Paris and Milan fashion weeks.

Guerilla Gardener bringing a little joy to the streets of London.

This week I learnt that the German for The Pill is Die Antibabypille. Seriously. That's not exciting but it's an example of why I love German.

Christian Louboutin anniversary collection

Does anyone else just love the phrase 'capsule' collection. It's small but perfectly formed. 10 - 25 looks or shoes or whatever it is the designer in question happens to be capsualising.

To celebrate his 20th anniversary, Christian Louboutin has released a capsule collection : 20 shoes for 20 years.

These might be a little too fierce for me:

But I could definitely see myself in these:

Or these:

Not to mention these!

The multi-purpose shoe

Daniela Bekerman is an industrial designer who has a bit of a mixed portfolio. What I like on her website are these shoes with removable heals:

I think they're a fantastically cool idea. Plus, I would wear all of the versions all of the time!

Super adorable, I believe is the expression.
