Exciting ASOS news for the Aussie shopper

This might get some of my internet-shopping-addict friends excited. ASOS is soon to release two  Australia-first collections; a beach collection and a salon collection.

It appears Australians drop a ton of money on ASOS. So to thank us as a nation for our monetary commitment and because we have opposite seasons to the ones being spruiked by the main UK site, Australia is getting a preview collection, available to Aussie customers before anyone else in the world.

The collections are out 8 of October, but you can get a sneak peak online and also register for the first notifications.

I don’t normally buy through ASOS, though I have been tempted in the past. One or two of the items in this Australia-first collection might make me change my mind.

I want those earrings!

Launching in Australia soon: Popbasic

I’m going to admit it: I am in awe of local entrepreneur Madeline Veenstra. Tired of her job at Queensland Treasury, she noticed a gap in Wikipedia’s fashion coverage and started up Wikifashion in her spare time until it took off and became a full-time job. She recently re-located Wikifashion from its Brisbane base (how did I now know this?!) to New York.

Now, her latest project is called Popbasic. Popbasic is a fashion subscription service that delivers a fabulous fashion parcel to your doorstep once a month. Subscribers will receive a wardrobe staple, two fashion items and a surprise each month. The cost of the service is between $50 - $100 per month, depending on the season and the contents. Even better, Popbasic ships for free to both the US and Australia!

The services launches in October and I am seriously considering signing up. Though I do enjoy shopping, I'm feeling a little seduced by the novelty and the intrigue of having someone else steer my fashion choices.
I also want to support a local entrepreneur, even though she may now be based in New York. I think this is such a cool project, made even cooler by the fact that it came out of Queensland. See the Popbasic website and sign up to receive a $10 gift voucher.

Five for Friday no. 37

For fellow XKCD fans out there: a Google Maps-like view of the XKCD world

Banksy art as animated gifs.

14 crazy places to travel to. I have added 13 to my travel list. I have already visited one of them.

Pamukkale, Turkey.
I have photos of me wandering through these natural cliffs and pools when I was 5.
I was adorable!

Speaking of travel, I have just discovered another fantastic general information website for people with Wanderlust.

That’s the mmMule tagline.

The Dress Memory project

Freelance writer and editor Lorelei Vashti is an avid collector of vintage clothes, on indeed, clothes. She began this project when she realised she couldn’t clear out her over-stuffed wardrobes because the clothes in them were too full of memories that would be discarded along with the dresses.

This project or website is all about her reliving those memories and sharing the stories.
As we all know, clothes can be so evocative and full of memories. Whether they are the obvious associations that come with a piece of clothing or jewellery handed down to us from a parent or grandparent, the wonderful find you bought at an op shop and had a great night in, or the cheap t-shirts you bought online and wore for 6 months of travelling. Clothes gather stories and associations as much as the next thing and this is one woman sharing her clothing memories in a sweet and funny way.

There are going to be a total of 24 dresses and stories, shared out over 6 months. This is dress 13, the most recent one. If you want to look at it yourself, go to Dress Memory.

You'll have to go to the website to read the story.
